Happy Friday! Christopher Walken Calls Xbox Live

Happy Friday everyone! I’m super excited because by day’s end I’ll be off to bigger and better things for the next couple weeks as I take a much needed vacation to go see friends up North. On that note let’s keep things fun and light hearted this morning with a Happy Friday post.

Picture the scene: Christopher Walken gets home after a day on set, he’s an every-man type of guy so he likes to kick back and relax while on his couch playing some Xbox One, but he can't because like the folks at Sony he's been "hacked". So like so many other gamers before him, Walken makes the dreaded call to Xbox Support.

Go Buy This: “Dr. Dreidels”

I usually try and drop a gift suggestion or two during the holiday season that fits thematically with the blog, today I can provide my first recommendation in the form of a Hanukkah gift for all your Jewish hip hop friends out there. Hannah Rothstein, a Bay Area artist, recently combined her love for Hip-Hop, Hanukkah and puns by designing dreidels with Dr. Dre’s likeness on them. Each side of the dreidel features a different image of Dre that was laser-etched onto the wooden canvas. The packaging also features a mirror image of Dre’s Beats logo to signify a “d” for dreidel and also acts as a good reminder how much of a whore the good Dr. has become in recent years.

Head over to the official website for more information on the Dr. Dreidels.

Video: Panda Bear - "Boys Latin"

Animal Collective’s Panda Bear is set to release his fifth studio LP, Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper on January 13th. The record leaked about a month back and it’s pretty great. “Boys Latin,” is the first video and it's a vibrant animated journey directed by Isaiah Saxon and Sean Hellfritsch. The video premiered on Adult Swim over the weekend and has some thematic nods to some of the network's more popular animated series'.

Video: Giraffage – “Tell Me”

Directed by Adam Avilla, Giraffage's chopped up electro pop jam "Tell Me" is one of the strangest videos I’ve seen in a very long while. A suitably tweaked music video, featuring a canine cast like you've never seen before. Donuts, emotions, childbirth... the circle of life really! If you like what you hear you can grab Giraffage's Fool's Gold EP No Reason now.

Video: Death Grips – “Inanimate Sensation”

Death Grips officially called it quits earlier in the year with the promise of new music before year’s end and it would seem we are seeing signs of the projects imminent release as 2014’s end fast approaches.  Taken from Jenny Death, the second half of their upcoming double album the powers that b, “Inanimate Sensation” sounds a little bigger and bolder than a lot of the material on the already shared Niggas On The Moon disc. The visuals for “Inanimate Sensation” is as with all things Death Grips, unique. Taking place on a fallen jumbotron that has crashed through the floor of a basketball court, the video flicks between distorted computer graphics and MC Ride. Word on the street is that the LP will drop on December 27th which is precisely why I don't release my favorite albums of the year list until the year is officially over.

Happy Friday: Every James Hetfield "Yea" Ever

An oldy but goldy.

Listen: Jam City – “Crisis” & “Unhappy”

Jam City is set to return with his sophomore LP in the New Year and producer recently shared two tracks, “Crisis” and “Unhappy.” The tunes are quite a departure from the Jack's last LP which was super crisp minimalist techno, this time around there is a much warmer feel, living in a space somewhere between his existing work and chillwave music.

Listen: Jean Deux - "Right Now"

Chicago continues it’s renaissance as the dominant breeding ground for current hip hop music as the latest offering from Jean Deaux and Tim Suby is bound to get some attention.  “Right Now” pairs the talented singer/emcee with some adventurous production that’s built on jumbled vocal stabs; a style that’s definitely been gaining traction over the last 3, 4 years and one I continue to enjoy.

Video: Vessel – “Red Sex”

Tri Angle recording artist Vessel teamed up with director Harry Wright for the visuals to “Red Sex.” The video is pretty odd, showcasing two naked men in a police cell getting freaky with some random every day household appliances and machinery. Wright was influenced by the aesthetic of the “home movie” and seedy, amateur porn films.

Video: Liars - "Mask Makers" (Extended Version)

The Liars manage to squeeze out yet another video before years end, this time it’s for Mess album opener “Mask Maker.” Directors of Photography Zen Sekizawa & Ernesto Lomeli keep things relatively simple with the tight shot of band member Aaron Hemphil but still retain the beauty and uneasiness of both the new extended version of the song and the existing universe of videos that have been shared from the Mess album thus far.

As an added bonus the band have made the extended version of the track available for free download for a limited amount of time, grab yours here and enjoy the video below…

Listen: Turned Out A Punk Episode #4 - Meredith Graves

Fucked Up frontman Damian Abraham recently started a podcast series called Turned Out A Punk, in the podcast he interviews people about their backgrounds in punk rock. On this week’s episode he chats with Perfect Pussy leader Meredith Graves where they discuss a multitude of social subjects including the singer's formative years, the misogyny, sexism, homophobia and racism that exists in the music scene today. It’s not all super serious though as the two also delve into some music geek type stuff and lighthearted fashion talk in the hour and a half chat. So grab a comfy chair and something to drink, kickback and enjoy the show.
